This condition arises when the immune system becomes over-active and skin cell renewal
accelerates, leading to build-up of cells instead of normal shedding.
Genetic predisposition, infections, skin injuries, stress and certain medications are known triggers.
Symptoms
Typical signs include:
Raised, red or purplish patches of skin (varying with skin tone) topped with thick, silvery scales,
Itching, burning sensation or soreness, and cracked, bleeding skin in more advanced cases.
