PLAQUE PSORIASIS - Causes, Symptoms & What It Means for You:

What Is Plaque Psoriasis?

Plaque psoriasis is the most common type of psoriasis, marked by dry, raised patches (plaques) of skin covered with silvery or white scales. These often appear on the elbows, knees, scalp or lower back.

Common Causes

This condition arises when the immune system becomes over-active and skin cell renewal accelerates, leading to build-up of cells instead of normal shedding. Genetic predisposition, infections, skin injuries, stress and certain medications are known triggers.

Symptoms

Typical signs include:
Raised, red or purplish patches of skin (varying with skin tone) topped with thick, silvery scales,
Itching, burning sensation or soreness, and cracked, bleeding skin in more advanced cases.

Complications & Prognosis:

If untreated, plaque psoriasis can lead to further health issues such as joint inflammation (psoriatic
arthritis), cardiovascular risks, metabolic syndrome and significant emotional stress. Early management can improve outcomes and quality of life.
