What is Snehapana

Snehapana is the internal administration of medicated ghee or oils in controlled doses. It is a preparatory therapy under Purvakarma, intended to soften, loosen, and mobilize accumulated toxins (Ama) and aggravated doshas. This prepares the body for major detoxification procedures (Shodhana).

Procedure

Assessment of Prakṛti, digestive strength, and health status

Light, easy-to-digest diet; avoid heavy foods
Administration of medicated ghee/oil in increasing doses for 3–7 days
External oleation (Abhyanga) and steam therapy (Svedana) alongside
Transition to main purification—Vamana or Virechana—after achieving Samyaka Sneha
