GUTTATE PSORIASIS – Causes & Symptoms

WHAT IS GUTTATE PSORIASIS?

Guttate psoriasis is a form of psoriasis characterised by small, drop-shaped red or pink spots thatappear suddenly, often following a throat or respiratory infection. It most often affects children and young adults.

COMMON CAUSES

The condition is typically triggered by an infection (especially streptococcal throat), and influenced by genetic predisposition and auto-immune reaction.

SYMPTOMS

You’ll see numerous small, teardrop-sized lesions on the torso, arms or legs, often with scales and itching. Many spots erupt quickly and may fade with time.

COMPLICATIONS & PROGNOSIS

In many cases, guttate psoriasis resolves on its own, but about one-third of people may go on to develop the chronic plaque type. Early intervention can reduce flare risk.
