INVERSE PSORIASIS (Skin Fold Psoriasis) -Causes, Symptoms & Prognosis

What Is Inverse Psoriasis?

Inverse psoriasis (also called skin-fold or flexural psoriasis) appears as smooth, red or purplish patches in areas where skin folds or touches skin such as armpits, groin, under breasts.

Common Causes

It arises when immune-system activation causes rapid skin-cell growth in moist skin folds; friction, sweating, obesity and genetics increase risk.

Symptoms

Appearance of glossy, smooth lesions (often lacking thick scale due to moisture) in skin-fold regions, which may be associated with cracking, itching, or bleeding.

Complications & Prognosis:

Since these areas are warm and damp, secondary fungal or bacterial infections are common. Persistent inflammation requires comprehensive care.
